Skirt!

Just finishing the hemming of a skirt I made inspired by D & G florals (see previous post)....I will post today I hope. I have a black & white polka dot tank cut out to go with...and working on finding the perfect animal print to top it off. I have been wanting this for a LONG time!

I think I may wear this to a rehearsal dinner in a couple of weeks...but I think I can also dress it down with a t-shirt and flats! We'll see on completion how that all works out. More to come...

Update lol....got distracted by the polka dot tank. I cut it out and bust is too tight, too short, too little! So I went a-hunting on my fave sites and online and found this tutorial http://www.brensan.com/Garment/Techniques/BustDarts/BustDarts_FBA.html  for FBA (full bust adjustment)....tried it and it works (even though I made a mistake and did it a little differently for the vertical cut - went down the center rather than from each bust). I sewed the dart and so far love the results. I guess I will almost be ready to post this too along with the skirt in spite of the change in plans for the day!

Fabric as Art...

I've been reading and thinking about fabric....and the reason I 'collect' it. I realized that I think of fabric as art. Actually to me it is art in a two-fold way, first it is the art of the fabric itself...the color, texture, pattern, etc. but then it is art in an imagined way. What I mean is what many of you would probably understand...the potential of that particular fabric to become a 'design' or work of art in the form of a piece of clothing, accessory, decor item, or whatever the case may be. My collection of fabric is like a collection of any other kind....I collect because of an appreciation of whatever it was that drew me to the piece just as with a painting, sculpture, or anything else!

Well that being said, I have to admit that I have not started anything for my 6PAC yet, but I DID finish a romper for my granddaughter (they left 2 days ago) and a nightgown and bed jacket for my daughter who is having surgery tomorrow. I'm hoping to be able to put some focus toward the capsule tomorrow and maybe post something!

Inspired by Color!

I just found my fabrics today (I think)....then saw this video for more inspiration. I have silks like this I found all over the world but hesitate to use them for my own clothes because they are so beautiful!

New Vogue Pattern....

Forgot to mention the brand new Vogue pattern I ordered....hoping to find it in the mail next week and maybe include it somehow in my SWAP! As far as I could find it isn't available yet in retail stores so I had to order it through Vogue. Love the Tilton's patterns and website!

Welcome! My new blog....

I am setting up this blog to track my progress in my creative endeavors! No matter how hard I try I just can't NOT (yes, double negative I know) be creating something! I sew, knit, crochet, make jewelry, paint cloth....who knows what you will find here! My latest obsession is taking all of the clothing I've bought because I loved the fabric or texture and actually 'refashion' it....I have been collecting raw material for this purpose for YEARS. I actually started and am almost finished with a fabulous tank that I made from a way-too-big t-shirt with long sleeves. I will try to post it here when completed. I hope this little blog will give me motivation to actually finish things I start for myself.

I just signed up for a mini SWAP (sewing with a purpose) and I am determined to make this happen so I plan to post the progress...and maybe my thought process here.

These pants are my inspiration....I have some that are completely in tatters (being linen and worn A LOT!). I love the white but I think I am going to make them in a great natural colored cotton that should hopefully wear longer. I will be making a jacket and top of the same color as part of the SWAP rules.

They are from Island Importer and I am tempted to just order them but I don't want the front pockets or the drawstring legs and I REALLY want a reusable pattern. So....everything else will be designed around these pants!

Ideas for my SWAP

I found the following link helpful for my coloring....I need to break away from black!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THE COLOR!
